Taking Photos and Recording

You can save the VCam video as photos and videos. Choose “Recording” in the menu on the left.

Click the folder button next to “Destination” and choose the folder to save to. If you haven’t chosen one, a window for choosing a folder opens the first time you take a photo or record.

File names start with “vcam_” followed by the date and time.

Click “Take a photo” to save a photo in PNG format.

When you set “Time to take photos”, the button counts down the remaining seconds and takes the photo when it reaches 0. You can set up to 30 seconds.

Click “Start recording [β]” to start recording, and click “Stop recording” to save the video. The video has the same size as “Screen resolution” in the “Rendering” tab of the settings. You can’t change “Format” while recording.

For “Format”, choose mp4, mov, m4v, or “HEVC with Alpha”. To save a video with a transparent background, choose “HEVC with Alpha”. To make the background transparent, see Integrate with OBS.

While the “Microphone” button is on, the video includes audio from the microphone you chose in Tracking Settings. Turn it off to leave the microphone out.

Turn on the “Desktop audio [β]” button to also record the sound playing on your Mac. While recording, the level of each audio source that is on appears under its button. If the microphone audio is out of sync with the video, adjust “Sync offset for mic [ms]” from the ⏱ button, which appears while both are on. If desktop audio can’t be recorded, an error appears and recording continues without desktop audio.

Choose “Screen Effect” in the menu on the left to adjust color and lighting effects. This feature is only in VCam.

Turn on “Enable” to apply the following effects:

  • “Ambient light intensity”, “Ambient light color”, “Camera Exposure (EV)”, “Color Filter”, “Saturation”, “Hue Shift”, and “Contrast”: Change the brightness and colors.
  • “White balance”: Corrects the color temperature and tint.
  • “Bloom”: Makes the light in bright areas glow. You can also add a “Lens flare”.
  • “Vignette”: Darkens the edges of the screen.

You can save your adjustments as presets. Switch presets with “Preset”, name the preset in the field next to it, and click “Save” to save the values to the selected preset. Click + to add a new preset, and click the trash button to delete it.

Screen effects aren’t available while URP is enabled in the “Experiment” tab of the settings.
