The App Doesn’t Work

Report issues through “Contact” on the VCam website with the following details. They help identify the cause.

App in use: Zoom
Issue: I opened Zoom after opening VCam. The avatar appeared at first, but it stopped appearing after about an hour.

Known issues and their workarounds are listed in Known Issues.

The App Is Slow

First, update to the latest version. If it’s still slow, try these in the settings window:

• Lower “Rendering Quality” in the “Rendering” tab
• Lower “Screen resolution” in the “Rendering” tab (1280x720 is recommended for video meetings)
• Lower “FPS (screen)” in the “Rendering” tab
• Lower “FPS (tracking)” in the “Tracking” tab
• Set the tracking of body parts you don’t use, such as hands and fingers, to “None”
• Connect an iPhone tracking app to let your iPhone handle tracking

The Avatar Doesn’t Appear in Zoom or Other Apps

Try these in order:

1. In Zoom or the other app, turn the camera off and back on
2. In Zoom or the other app, switch to a different camera, then back to VCam
3. Restart Zoom or the other app, and VCam
4. Reinstall the virtual camera

Steps 1 and 2 reconnect to the virtual camera, which may make the avatar appear.

Can’t Turn On the Camera in Zoom or Other Apps

The VCam virtual camera has crashed. Restart Zoom or the other app to reload the virtual camera.

Sending a crash report through “Contact” on the VCam website helps find the cause. In the Console app, select Crash Reports, then search for “caphost” if you use Zoom.

Hands Don’t Move as Expected

With “VCam hand tracking 3.0”, the avatar’s hands follow where your hands are relative to your face. Hold a hand in front of your face, and the avatar’s hand comes in front of its face. If the hands are off, run “Calibrate” > “Hand Tracking” again.

Otherwise, the avatar’s hands follow where your hands appear in the camera image, not their actual position. This keeps your hands from leaving the camera’s view when you raise them straight up on a MacBook or similar. To see how your hands appear in the camera, open QuickTime Player and choose File > New Movie Recording.

The Avatar Disappeared

Choose Model > “Reset Model Position” in the menu bar to move the avatar back to its initial position. You can also right-click the avatar in the object list and choose “Reset position”.

Can I Use Shortcuts While Another App Is in Front?

In VCam 0.15.7 and later, keys you set for shortcuts work even while you’re using another app, such as OBS or a game. You can also use them from devices that send keys, such as Stream Deck.

• Set the key together with a modifier key (⌘, ⇧, ⌃, or ⌥). F13–F20 can be set on their own.
• While VCam is running, other apps can’t use the keys you set. Avoid keys that many apps use, such as ⌘C.
• If another app uses the same key, you may not be able to set it. In that case, choose a different key.

Can I Use It for Streaming on YouTube and Other Platforms?

Yes. Sharing your stream with the hashtag “#VCam” is always appreciated.

To use VCam2D commercially, you need a commercial license. You can check your license status in the “License” tab of the settings.

Can I Hide the Watermark?

If your version of the app has a watermark, keep the watermark visible while you use it. If you don’t want to show the watermark, consider the version without a watermark, which is available to supporters.
