Edit Model

You can attach models and images such as hats and small items to your avatar and export it as a VRM. This feature is only in VCam.

Choose Model > “Edit Model” in the menu. You can also double-click the avatar in the object list, or right-click it and choose “Edit”.

The editor shows the avatar that’s currently loaded. To edit a model from VRoid Hub, you need to be signed in to VRoid Hub.

Click + in the toolbar, choose “Add to Head”, “Add to Body”, “Add to Left Hand”, or “Add to Right Hand”, then select a file. An attached accessory moves with that body part.

You can load the following files:

  • glTF (.glb, .gltf)
  • FBX (.fbx)
  • OBJ (.obj)
  • zip (the FBX, OBJ, glb, or gltf file inside is loaded)
  • Images (.png, .jpg, .jpeg, .tga): These become flat accessories

If the textures of an FBX or OBJ file can’t be found, the model is loaded with colors only. Put the texture images in the same folder as the model. An OBJ file takes its colors and textures from its .mtl file, so keep the .mtl file in the same folder as the OBJ file too.

Click an accessory to select it, then drag the handles that appear. There are three kinds of handles, “Move”, “Rotate”, and “Scale”, and you can also switch between them with the W, E, and R keys.

In the “Inspector” on the right, you can enter numbers for “Position”, “Rotation”, and “Scale”. You can also move the accessory to another body part with “Attach to”, or move its center to the attachment point with “Center on Bone”. Scaling keeps the proportions by default.

To remove the selected accessories, click “Remove Models” or press Delete. Press ⌘Z to undo and Shift-⌘Z to redo.

Use the following to change the view:

  • Option-drag: Orbit around the avatar
  • Shift-drag: Move the view up, down, left, or right
  • Scroll: Zoom in or out
  • Press F or double-click: Fit the selected accessory in the view
  • Click an axis at the bottom right: View from that direction

Click “Apply to Avatar” to put the accessories on the avatar in the main window. The model file doesn’t change, so the accessories come off when you load the avatar again.

Even after you close the editor, the placement you’re working on stays until you quit VCam.

To use the avatar with the accessories all the time, export it as a VRM. Click “Export VRM”, choose a “Thumbnail”, click “Export”, then choose where to save it.

  • “Capture Avatar”: Captures the avatar with the accessories and uses it as the thumbnail
  • “Keep Original”: Keeps the thumbnail of the original model
  • “Custom Image”: Uses the image you choose as the thumbnail

The exported VRM is a copy of the original model, and the original file doesn’t change. It has the same VRM version as the original model. Load it the same way as described in Loading an Avatar to use the avatar with the accessories. If you open the editor after loading it, you can keep adjusting the attached accessories.

Models from VRoid Hub can’t be exported, so “Export VRM” isn’t shown for them.
