Objects and Scenes
You can show objects such as images, screen captures, and text along with your avatar, and switch between layouts as scenes.
Adding Objects
Section titled “Adding Objects”Choose an item from the “Object” menu, or click + in the object list.
- “Add Image”: Shows an image file.
- “Add Screen”: Shows your Mac screen. Under “Capture Type”, choose “Entire Display” or “Independent Window”. You need to allow VCam to record the screen in macOS System Settings.
- “Add Video Capture”: Shows the video from a webcam or a capture device.
- “Add Web”: Shows a web page. Enter a URL, or turn on “Local File” and select an HTML file. You can set the size and FPS, as well as CSS and JavaScript.
- “Add Text”: Shows text. Choose a preset, adjust the look with “Font”, “Fill”, “Outline”, “Effects”, and “Background”, then click “Apply”. Vertical text is also available.
- “Add Wind”: Blows wind on the swaying parts of the avatar, such as hair and clothes. This item is only in VCam.
When the clipboard holds an image, “Clipboard” appears in the + menu so you can add that image.
You can also drag and drop an image file (.png, .jpg, .tiff, .tga, or .bmp) onto the VCam window to add it. If you drop an HTML file, the web settings open.
Object List
Section titled “Object List”“Object” at the bottom of the menu on the left lists the objects in the current scene. Objects lower in the list appear in front. To change the order, drag a row or use the buttons below the list.
To rename an object, click the name of the selected row or press Return. Double-click a row to open the editor for that object. For the avatar, Edit Model opens.
The − button below the list deletes the selected object. The avatar can’t be deleted. While it’s selected, the − button turns into a “Reset position” button.
Right-Click Menu
Section titled “Right-Click Menu”Right-click a row in the list to show the following items, depending on the type of object:
- “Hide” and “Show”: Hidden objects don’t appear in the video and are dimmed in the list.
- “Lock” and “Unlock”: A locked object can’t be selected or moved in the preview, and can’t be edited or deleted. A lock icon appears in the list.
- “Filter”: Makes a specific color transparent with “Chroma Keying”, or blurs the object with “Blur”. Available for images, screen captures, video captures, and web pages.
- “Interact”: Opens the web page so you can click and use it.
- “Set As Background”: Stretches the image across the whole screen, puts it at the back, and locks it.
- “Reset position”: Moves the avatar back to its original position.
- “Change the direction of the wind randomly”: Changes the direction of the wind.
- “Duplicate” and “Delete”: Available for everything except the avatar.
You can change the background color under “Color” from the palette button in the toolbar. To make it transparent, see Integrate with OBS.
Moving Objects in the Preview
Section titled “Moving Objects in the Preview”Click an object in the preview to select it, and an orange frame appears. Drag it to move it, or drag a corner to resize it. Press Delete to delete it. Hidden and locked objects can’t be selected.
Click the avatar to select it, then drag to move it or scroll to change its size. In VCam, right-dragging also changes the camera angle.
Scenes
Section titled “Scenes”The layout of objects and the position of the avatar are saved for each scene. Click the button at the top right of the object list to open the scene list, and select a scene to switch to it.
Click + to add a scene and − to delete it. You can also right-click a scene and choose “Duplicate”. To rename a scene, click the name of the selected scene.
Landscape and portrait screens use separate scenes. When you choose a vertical resolution under “Screen resolution” in the “Rendering” tab of the settings, the scene list switches to the scenes for portrait.
Subtitle
Section titled “Subtitle”Enter text in the “Subtitle” field in the main window and press Return to show it as a subtitle. Press Option-Return for a line break, and clear the field to remove the subtitle. The subtitle appears in every scene and isn’t shown in the object list. You can also change it with the “Subtitle” shortcut.
The text stays the same size as it gets longer. When it nears the width of the screen, it wraps and grows upward.
Subtitle Style
Section titled “Subtitle Style”Click the button next to the “Subtitle” field to open “Subtitle Style”. As with text objects, you can change the look with presets, “Font”, “Outline”, and more.
While this window is open, you can drag the subtitle in the preview to move it. Click “Reset Position” to move it back to the bottom center of the screen. “Reset to Default” resets only the look.
