Capture Modes
There are three capture modes, “Snap”, “AR Camera”, and “Studio”. Tap the mode button at the right end of the bottom row to choose one. Modes your device doesn’t support don’t appear. You can’t switch modes while recording.
Shoot like a regular camera. You switch between the front and back cameras. See Switch between the front and back cameras for how to switch.
- Front camera: The avatar appears at your position and size, and you’re removed from the background
- Back camera: Point iPhone at the scene to shoot. The front camera reads your expressions and hands, so you don’t appear in the shot. Available on devices that can use the front and back cameras at the same time
AR Camera
Section titled “AR Camera”Place the avatar on a real floor and shoot it as a photographer. The avatar doesn’t track your expressions or hands.
Tap the AR button in the top row to open “AR Camera Settings” and change how the avatar is placed. While the settings are open, you can:
- Tap: Place it again on that spot of the floor
- Drag: Move it across the floor
- Pinch: Change its size
- Rotate: Change its direction
These items appear while the settings are open:
- “Recenter”: Places the avatar life-size in front of the camera, facing it
- “Size”: Shows the current scale. Tap it to go back to life-size
- “Eye Contact”: When on, the avatar’s head and eyes turn to the camera
- “Shadow”: Casts the avatar’s shadow on the floor
- “Occlusion”: Hides the avatar behind real objects and people. On a device with LiDAR, choose “Objects & People”, “Objects Only”, or “Off”. On a device without LiDAR, the avatar hides only behind people
“Occlusion” works when the background is “Camera” and the photo resolution is “Standard”. The position and size go back to the defaults when you switch capture modes.
Studio
Section titled “Studio”Place the avatar wherever and at whatever size you like. The placed avatar still follows the expressions and hand movements the front camera tracks. See Studio for details.
