Editing After You Shoot

On the screen after you shoot, you can choose a different style for a photo, add text, or trim a video before you save. Adding text and trimming are free.

Tap “Save” in the bottom center to save to Photos. Use “Share” to send it to another app or with AirDrop. If you go back to shooting with “Back”, photos and videos you haven’t saved are discarded.

Photos are saved as JPEG. Photos taken with the “Transparent” background are saved as PNG.

If you keep editing after saving, tap “Save” again to add it as a separate photo or video. What you saved earlier isn’t overwritten. You can edit only while you’re on this screen. Photos and videos you open from “Library” can’t be edited.

For a photo, open the same list you use before shooting from “Camera Style” at the top right, and choose a different style. The app redraws the photo from the background and avatar at the moment you shot it, so there’s no need to shoot again.

  • The frame, date, and watermark stay as they were when you shot the photo
  • The style you’ve chosen for shooting doesn’t change
  • Videos and GIFs can’t change style

For a photo taken in Studio, you can also rearrange the avatars with the same controls as before shooting. Tools that can’t be used after shooting appear dimmed. See Studio for the controls.

You can add text to photos, videos, and GIFs before you save. Tap “Add Text” in the top row to add a piece of text and start typing right away. For a GIF, tap “Text” at the bottom or tap the GIF. You can add as many pieces of text as you like.

While you type, designs appear above and colors below:

  • Tap “Time Taken” or “Date Taken” to insert the time or date you shot. Touch and hold to choose a format
  • Select part of the text before tapping a color to change only that part
  • Lines break only where you press Return

Move placed text the same way as an avatar in Studio:

  • Drag: Move it. It snaps to the center and edges of the screen
  • Pinch: Change its size
  • Rotate: Tilt it
  • Drag a corner of the frame: Change the size and tilt together. Useful when short text is too small to pinch
  • Tap the selected text: Edit the text

When you select text, “Design”, “Color”, “Font”, “Effects”, and “More” appear at the bottom. “Font” lists the fonts on your device, including ones you installed yourself. “Effects” changes the “Outline”, “Shadow”, and “Background”. “More” has “Bring Forward”, “Send Backward”, “Lock”, “Duplicate”, and “Delete”.

“Save as Design” adds the look you made to the start of the design list, ready for photos, videos, and GIFs. The next text you add starts from the design you used last. Use “Undo” and “Redo” in the top row to step back and forward through your changes.

Text on a video stays in the same place from start to end. It’s written into the video when you save or share, which takes a moment.

Drag the handles at both ends of the playback bar to trim the start and end of a video. When you shoot from a distance with the timer or “Palm Shutter”, this removes the part where you walk back to stop the recording.

Saving and sharing use only the part you keep. The part you keep can’t be shorter than 1 second.

Tap the speaker button (“Mute”) at the top left to turn off the sound. If you save or share while it’s muted, the video has no audio.

You shoot a GIF the same way as a video: tap the shutter to start, then tap again to stop.

  • Recording stops automatically after 5 seconds at most
  • No sound is recorded
  • If a motion is playing, it starts from the beginning and recording stops after one loop, so the GIF repeats seamlessly

After shooting, choose the finish with “Quality” and “Loop” at the bottom. Your choices carry over to your next GIF.

  • “Quality”: Choose “Classic”, “Lo-Fi”, or “Deep Fried”. Each adds rough, meme-style artifacts on purpose
  • “Loop”: “Repeat” jumps back to the start. “Boomerang” plays backward to return

GIFs are saved to Photos as GIFs and shared as GIF files. Shooting with the “Transparent” background makes a GIF with a see-through background.
